1.8 Explain how information from chromatograms can be used to identify the composition of a mixture.

Imagine you have placed a dot of black ink on chromatography paper, perfectly following the chromatography process (See 1.7). You place dots of 3 known substances alongside, R, B, and G. R is red, B is blue and G is green.

When the black ink has separated, showing all the dyes present, you see that dyes R and B are present, but not G. 

Basically, chromatograms are used to tell what substances make up a compound (or mixture, I guess...I don't know...is ink a compound or a mixture...)
